Due to the many requests from
customers concerning the production capacity of the Procut
Portable Mill I have included all my statistics here. The
30 feet per minute cutting speed is based on cutting a log
that has already been canted for 2x4 lumber. your actual
cut will be as low as 5 feet per minute and anything in between,
depending on the size of the log and cc of your chainsaw.
what you should be concerned about and the question that
should be really asked is "how much lumber can I cut over
a period of time", this should be your real concern. You
should take into consideration a lot of factors such as log
size, loading logs, removing slabs, cutting and removing
lumber, stacking lumber, and misc. things you have to do
in the day. Sooner or later you will have to shut down the
mill to utilize the lumber you have cut. All the above has
to be taken into consideration.
Below is the production record of cutting with Procut
using a Stihl 090 - 132cc - 11.5 hp, 1 man helping, taken
from company files 1985 to 1991. Cutting logs from 8 inches
to 20 inches, 8 feet to 16 feet long and selling the lumber,
not utilizing it. Most of the lumber was under contract
and some was sold retail. You will also have to take into
consideration the size of the saw I was using, the milling
modifications I did to the saw and the length of bar used
( 32" ) and using the already edged method of cutting logs.
